Parkinson’s Therapy

Parkinson's disease/syndrome - LSVT LOUD and BIG certified therapists

It is possible to take charge of your life, even with Parkinson's. Traditionally, there have been three methods of treatment to slow the progression of Parkinson's disease, including pharmacology, surgery, and exercise programs. It has been demonstrated that exercise can improve brain functioning (neural plasticity) and may slow the disease progression in people with Parkinson's. Recent advances in neuroscience have provided neurobiological and behavioural evidence supporting the positive impact of exercise-based protocols in people with Parkinson's disease. LSVT BIG is one type of physical therapy program that has strong, evidence-based potential to offer improvements in movement and quality of life for people with Parkinson's Disease.

So how is LSVT delivered? The program can only be administered by a Certified LSVT BIG™ Physical or Occupational Therapist. All LSVT BIG sessions are conducted in a 1:1 intervention, 4 days per week for a total of 4 weeks for a total of 16 sessions in one month. Sessions are approximately 60 minute long, and the program includes daily carryover assignments and daily homework. This month long program could potentially be the most important month for the rest of your life.

"It is possible for your will to override your brain. It is possible to have power over Parkinson's." - Sharon Kha, LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD Graduate
